Hooligan Fishing in Alaska!!

Steve Sturman of Fred's Alaska Seafood fishing for smelt (hooligan) in 2007. This is a sustainable fishery that we fish every summer! We use dipnets because that is what Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game requires, and while people can eat these fish, we send ours as bait grade to the states! This is a run that lasts a few days and has billions and billions of fish in it. We only catch about 1% of them so this fishery can be
